New Auto Repair Shop Opens in Manchester

Alber Auto, a new full service small engine and auto repair shop located on Duncan Street along the river, opened it’s doors for business this summer.  Although their focus is on auto and small engine repair, head mechanic and shop manager, Tom Pyle says “if it has an engine, chances are we can fix it.”

Owner, Jennifer Alber didn’t initially set out to open an auto repair shop. As proprietor of Proper Building Services, a commercial and residential construction company, she initially acquired the space to expand that business’s shop. But when she hired Tom, a friend of many years, as a mechanic for Proper Building, she saw an opportunity to offer the shop’s services to the public and Alber Auto was born. Tom, who had operated his own repair shop, Manchester Tractor and Equipment, in the location immediately previously, brought his 16 years of experience and his former customer base with him. Jennifer says “Tom is the best of the best and he knows what he is doing”.

Jennifer knows she has a lot of competition with the two established auto repair shops. In addition to competing on labor costs, Jennifer has invested heavily to insure the shop has the latest diagnostic tools and software and she employs two mechanics in addition to Tom. Alber Auto offers a number of services including welding and fabricating, trailer customization and repair, fleet repair, and contractor maintenance packages, but they view themselves as more than just a list of services. Alber Auto strives to educate their customers how to best maintain their vehicles and to do it all at a fair price. Jennifer says, "It’s more about a way of doing business."

In addition to all the activity at Alber Auto, Jennifer has also rented the space above the shop into which she will be moving the offices of Proper Building Services, and in the very near future, plans to open a real estate office focusing on investment property.
