A brand new Nesco FD-1040 1000-watt Gardenmaster Food Dehydrator will soon be available for check-out from the Manchester District Library. The dehydrator has a top-mounted 2,400 RPM fan, an adjustable thermostat that ranges from 90 degrees to 160 degrees F and a digital timer which is programmable for up to 48 hours. Anyone with a library card will be able to check out the food dehydrator from the library and take it home for a week.

The food dehydrator can be used to make dried fruit, dried veggies, dried herbs, soup mixes, fruit leathers, rehydratable foods for camping and emergencies, and jerkies, as well as way to process and store large harvests or good buys at the grocery store. You can make healthy kale chips at a fraction of the price of purchasing them, gourmet fruit roll-ups with your own custom flavors, or fresh croutons for your salads. If you are unsure of how to use it or what to make with it, never fear, the dehydrator will come with instructions and a copy of Mary Bell's Complete Dehydrator Cookbook which contains directions for dehydrating everything (and recipes for using it once you've dehydrated it.)

The dehydrator and cookbook were donated by the Manchester Community Garden. Visit their website here. If you have any questions about the dehydrator contact the library at  734-428-8045.
