mcaca_logo_finalCultural Art Strings announced this week that they have been awarded a grant of $2,375 from the State of Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA). The grant was awarded through the MCACA peer review process and was one of 428 applications to compete for MCACA fiscal year 2014 funding and one of 32 to receive it.

The Grant will allow Cultural Art Strings to expand this year by hiring of up to five teaching fellows for CAS's two-week summer camp, which will run from June 16-27, 2014 here in Manchester. The fellows will assist current CAS faculty in running the camp. They, in turn, will gain valuable experience in group teaching elementary-age students and will benefit from the direct guidance and mentorship of CAS faculty. They will also have the opportunity to perform for local audiences at evening chamber music events with CAS faculty.

Organizations receiving a MCACA grant award are required to match those funds with other public and private dollars. Local support of the project included numerous donations from private donors attending their benefit concerts and our current student enrollments.  Cultural Art Strings also received significant volunteer and in-kind support from the community including Dan Winnick, Rick Green, Dee Miles, Roger Miles, Carol and Mark Palms, Manchester United Methodist Church, Sharon United Methodist Church,  Busch’s of Clinton, Eric Amidon, Kent and Lynn Miller, Betty Cummings, Corinne Schat, Peter Lynch and Sel de Terre, Alber’s Orchard, McLennan’s Nursery, The Wild Acorn, Manchester Community Schools, Kilwins of Ann Arbor,  Robert Rohwer, Aileen Rohwer, Jennie Lewis, SHAR Music,  Rick Dapprich, Instrumental Distribution LLC, Warren Samberg, Emma Acres Farm, Chef Jay Jacobs, and many more!

The MCACA peer review process allows for each grant application to be competitively considered by a panel of in-state and out-of-state arts and culture professionals. A complete list of grant awards around the state is available by contacting MCACA at (517) 241-4011, or by visiting the MCACA website HERE.  Anyone interested in the CAS Summer Camp can find information and registration forms on the website HERE or by emailing aileen@culturalartstrings.org.
