Despite the extreme cold and wind, the morning of April 26, families braved the weather to participate in Manchester's Safe Routes to School first bicycle rodeo. The children learned different safety skills at skill stations set up for the morning's event. The Ann Arbor Bicycle Touring Society gave each child a new bike helmet, Aberdeen Bike & Outdoors located in Chelsea performed bike checks, and Programs to Educate All Cyclists (PEAC) members taught bicycling safety.

John Waterman from PEAC did a great job working with the children and committed to attending our first National Bike to School Day event.

Safe Routes to School would like to thank all the volunteers who helped make the bike rodeo possible and invite all Klager School and Middle School Students to join in the first National Bike to School Day being held this Wednesday, May 7th.

Our students will be joining students around the nation as they take the initiative to be active and healthy and start the school day off in a positive way.  Students can meet at Carr Park at 7:35am or Chi-Bro Park at 7:45am.  Members from PEAC will be leading the students to school.

The organizers are still in need of more adults to help lead the children on their bikes. Please contact Melanie Woods @ 734-323-8903 or email: mwoods@mcs.k12.mi.us if you are interested in helping.
