On Sunday June 8th, from 1pm to 4pm, the Friends of the Library and the Manchester Ladies Society are teaming up to give you the chance to browse the used book sale while enjoying cookies and drinking tea. The Friend’s on-going book sale, which is located on the second floor, will have been newly restocked for the event. All proceeds from the book sale will be used to fund Summer Reading and other Library programs. All proceeds from the bake sale will go towards the purchase of a sewing machine that will be available for check-out at the library, much like the food dehydrator and telescope, currently in the library's circulating collection.

The Manchester Ladies Society is fundraising to buy this sewing machine to donate to the library. It will then be available for checkout.

The Ladies Society explained why they were fundraising to purchase a high quality sewing machine instead of donating a ubiquitous used sewing machine, “Sewing on an inexpensive sewing machine can be frustrating. You spend much more time trying to fix it than you do actually sewing. The tension is always messed up. The thread is always breaking. The stitches are always bunching up and jamming the machine. Being able to just sit down and sew is a totally different experience and one that comes with a high-quality sewing machine."

If you have books or DVDs you would like to donate for the sale, you can bring them to the Village Room (lower level of the library) this coming Saturday from 10am - noon. The Friends ask that donated books be in good condition. They cannot accept encyclopedias, magazines, textbooks, VHS tapes or cassette tapes.

The library is located at 912 City Road. If you have questions about the book sale, contact the the Library at 734.428.8045. If you have questions about the bake sale, contact the Ladies Society by emailing manchesterladiessociety@gmail.com.
