Will Freedom Township Voters Opt to Remain in the Manchester Library District?

Decrease Font Size Increase Font Size Text Size Print This Page

The Manchester District Library Board of Trustees has asked us to announce the following:

Freedom Township is paying for a one-issue ballot on August 5th.  The question as it will appear on the ballot is:

"Do you want Freedom Township to withdraw from the Manchester District Library?"

If Freedom Township does withdraw, Residents of that township who want to use library services will have to purchase individual library cards ($125.00/person) from the library. Library services include borrowing privileges at the Chelsea Library.

Currently, the Library District includes Manchester, Freedom, and Bridgewater Townships, and the Village of Manchester.

This ballot proposal can be found on the Washtenaw County Elections website. (link)

In order to contextualize what it would mean for Freedom to withdraw from the District, The Manchester Mirror has collected the most recent income data for the Library District. Freedom Township accounts for 26% of the total yearly revenue that supports the library.
