New iPads Replace Computers in Children's Section of Manchester District Library

Three refurbished iPad 3s have replaced the aging desktop computers that once dominated the center of the Children's section of the Manchester District Library. Worth Repeating generously donated $2500 to purchase the iPads, as well as robust mounting hardware to keep the machines safe from overly-curious little hands. The iPads already have a handful of fun and engaging apps, such as PBS Kids (where PBS cartoons can be watched), Robot Lab, Hair Salon 2, and the ever popular Angry Birds.

Library Director James Miller will be adding apps periodically, hoping the build a large collection of games, educational applications and artist programs for children to explore. As the children have access to iPads at school, and many community members use the devices, he is hoping that many people will come in to suggest their favorite apps.

The library expects to save money on electricity, maintenance and software costs.

For security reasons, kids can't install or delete apps, buy anything, access the Internet, send email or text message, or use the camera.
