At the Civic Club's January meeting they presented their annual "Excellence in Education" Award. They had the honor, this year, of presenting it to one of their own members, Manchester High School's Principal Dr. Kevin Andrew Mowrer.

Mowrer, 38,  holds a B.A. with honors in English Education from Western Michigan University, an M.A. in Educational Leadership from Northeastern Illinois University and a Ph.D. from Michigan State University with a specialization in educational administration and supervision. His dissertation was titled, “District Response to Michigan’s Teacher Evaluation Laws.”

From 1999 to 2004, Mowrer taught English and coached JV boys’ basketball in one of Chicago’s largest high schools, Farragut Career Academy, located on the South Side. He taught English for two years at Manchester High School and has served as its principal since 2006. He is a past board member of the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals.

Mowrer was born and raised in Adrian. He is the son of Dr. Sherwyn Mowrer of Adrian and the late Dr. Ruth Ann Mowrer.

His wife Stacy, formerly of Davison, is director of learning and development for Consumers Energy in Jackson. Kevin and Stacy have three children, Chloe, age 7; and twin sons, Max and Will, age 5.
