Hands-On Math and Science Night Coming to Manchester

Golden retriever therapy dogs Ziva and Izzy of Therapaws of Michigan will be at Klager Math and Science Night.

Come to Math and Science Night on March 27th to meet Reggie the Recycling Raccoon from Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority.

Where, in one place, can you touch a python, see a live beehive, dance Zumba, shoot off a straw rocket, and learn to code on an I-Pad? If that’s not enough, you could also read with a therapy dog, look at skin cells under a microscope, build the tallest structure that you can that will still hold a tennis ball, and view photos of outer space!

It may sound like a museum, but it’s actually at Klager Elementary’s Math and Science Night! You are invited to join the Klager community Friday March 27, 2015 from 6-8 PM. It is open to the public and FREE. Co-sponsored by the Klager PTO and the Manchester Wellness Coalition, Math and Science Night is a fun evening for the whole family. This event is designed to spark interest in science and health topics by utilizing fun, hands-on activities and experiments.

Golden retriever therapy dogs Ziva and Izzy of Therapaws of Michigan will be making an appearance at Math and Science Night!

Klager classrooms will host a variety of visiting instructors, including Reggie the Recycling Raccoon (Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority), golden retriever therapy dogs Ziva and Izzy (Therapaws of Michigan), and Josh the macaw (The Creature Conservancy). Visiting human instructors include Creature Conservancy and Manchester Community Garden volunteers, Science Olympiad parent coaches, Manchester Voices, local Manchester citizens offering insight into specific interests or career paths, and our own Klager and Manchester Middle School students.

Be sure to visit the science poster presentations of Klager and Manchester Middle School students, including “Electricity” by May Enzer (5th Grade), “Hover Car” by Frank Ingalls and Alden Rohwer (7th Grade), and “Clockworks” by Annelise Baron and Megan Mann (7th Grade). We hope to see you there and share the fun at Math and Science Night!

Last year's Science Olympiad "mystery architecture" challenge, in which students tried to build the tallest structure that was still capable of holding a tennis ball without falling over - a very popular hand's on activity - will be returning this year!
