The Manchester Men's Club announced this week that after almost a decade, the group will not be holding its annual Ribs and Blues event this year. Held on the third weekend in May, the weather is always hit or miss and in recent years, the cold and rain has translated to small crowds.

The event is not being canceled forever; just postponed for a year. Men's Club member John Stedman stated that they hope to reinstate it next year and are looking at different times of the year to hold it. It will be back “bigger and stronger next season,” he said.

Although Ribs and Blues is not happening this year,  the Men's Club is proud to participate in another event coming up. Manchester Area Youth Sports (MAYS), Manchester’s youth softball league will be holding opening day festivities on May 2nd. Police will stop traffic and all of the players in their uniforms and parents will parade through town to Kirk Park where they will celebrate. The Men's Club purchases all of the hot dogs and buns for this event.

The MAYS event is just one of the ways the Men's Club supports Manchester. The organization is responsible for funding and running dozens of events that make Manchester such a great community to live in, including major events like the Fireworks in July, Ice Skating Party at Chi Bro Park in January, the Easter Egg Hunt in April and Christmas Tree sales in November. Those are in addition to the monetary donations quietly made to many organizations and projects.

Stedman stated that the Men's Club whole-heartedly welcomes new members. Their next membership meeting is set for 7 pm on Wednesday, May 20, at Chi Bro Park (their summer location). Stedman also encourages people to like the Men's Club on Facebook and to check out their webpage. If you have questions contact Stedman by phone at 734-231-6284 or by email at redstedman@comcast.net.
