The Zion Lutheran Church of Chelsea membership, which includes Manchester-area residents, has begun preparations for their 150th anniversary celebration. The celebration will begin with a Reunion Weekend, scheduled for September 5th and 6th and will continue through the spring of 2017, the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.

Zion has a significant history in this area. The church was founded in 1865 by members of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in order to establish a western location in Freedom Township. Their original church building, located at Waters and S. Fletcher Roads, was dedicated two years later in 1867. Their current building, built in 1974, sits directly across Waters Road.

If you or anyone you know has ties to this community of faith and would like information on the Reunion Weekend or other celebration events, please email zion150th@gmail.com or “like” their Facebook page .
