GS Silver AwardFive scouts from Manchester’s Girl Scout Troop 41773 have been awarded the Girl Scout Silver award by The Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan Council. Girl Scout Cadettes Madilyn Chandler, Paige Bourland, Logan Huff, Elizabeth O’Hotzke and Katie Wooden have earned the second highest achievement in Girl Scouting which symbolizes their accomplishments in Girl Scouting and their community as they discover their strengths and take action to make the world a better place.

For their Girl Scout Silver award project the five girls crocheted scarves for needy families staying at the Alpha House in Ann Arbor, MI. In order to purchase the supplies to crochet the scarves, the scouts collected money through cookie, magazine and nut sales as well as donations. They then worked together to make the scarves and finally delivered them to the Alpha House. The five girls learned about budgeting, project management, teamwork, and the value of helping others.

The Silver Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout in the sixth through eighth grade can earn. The Silver Award recognizes the work of Girl Scout Cadettes who demonstrate leadership skills culminating in 50 hours or more dedicated towards a service project that makes a difference in their community. These five scouts have just completed Eighth grade and will begin their Freshman year of high school this fall.
