A sensory bin is coming to the Manchester District Library’s children’s area!

Sensory exploration plays an important role in early childhood development. It encourages children to learn about the world around them by engaging their senses, and to acquire both practical life skills (through lifting, scooping, and dumping) and play skills (sharing, cooperation, and language development). Sensory play can also help improve a child’s focus and concentration, fostering a sense of comfort and calm and easing stress.

A sensory bin can be quite a simple setup, requiring only a large storage container, a filler material (rice, sand, small rocks, seeds, or even water), scoops and shovels. From there you can build on a theme, adding smaller containers, funnels, or even small toys.

Stop by the Manchester District Library at 912 City Road to let your child explore our sensory bin.

For as little as $1 a month, you can keep Manchester-focused news coverage alive.
