Riley Collins, a Manchester High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Lake Superior State University (LSSU) last Wednesday in the high school media center. LSSU Woman's basketball is a NCAA Division II team which plays in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The media center was filled with fellow students, Riley's family, and past coaches. Principal Kevin Mowrer opened the signing ceremony with an anecdote; upon seeing Riley playing in an eighth grade tournament he told Athletic Director Wes Gall the school could expect "four great years." Riley has been a starter on Manchester's Lady Dutch varsity basketball since entering high school. The Lady Dutch earned two district, and one conference championships during her time on the team. Varsity coach Corey Fether has been Riley's coach since eighth grade and has enjoyed watching, "her game transform from a defensive specialist and role player as a freshman into a complete player.  Her work ethic has been tremendous." She will continue her role as captain in her final year of high school basketball.

Riley, for her part, "worked hard" and always planned on playing college ball. At LSSU she expects to be a starter. While not on the court she will be studying pre-med.

The Manchester Lady Dutch varsity basketball team begins its season November 29th at 7 pm with a home game against Clinton.
