Fish-FryIn many communities, fish fries provide a pleasurable, family friendly and delicious activity on the Friday nights between Fat Tuesday and Easter. For many years St. Mary Catholic Church held a regionally famous fish fry at the parish center which was discontinued due to the need to update equipment. Stepping in, an organization known as the Manchester Area Friends in Action partnered with Sharon United Methodist Church (SUMC) who hosted it, and many Manchester organizations who provided workers for a percentage of the profit, benefited from the weekly fish fries in the SUMC fellowship hall.

Unfortunately, this fish fry has also ended. Pastor Pete Harris of the SUMC confirmed that the fish fries will not be happening this year. “Sharon UMC hosted these events in the past, but the organization that ran the fish fries has discontinued the effort.”

The news isn’t all bad though! St Mary’s has been working behind the scenes to restart their fish fry next spring. A spokesperson from the church stated, “St. Mary’s Church was always known for having the 'best' fish fries in the area, so after a 10-year hiatus the parish is looking forward to beginning their famous fish fries again in 2018!"
