Charles William “Chuck” Cornell (1943 - 2017)

Charles William “Chuck” Cornell, of Manchester, Michigan, age 74, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born on August 25, 1943, in Ann Arbor, MI, the son of Erwin and Josephine (Hayden) Cornell. He attended St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea and retired from the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department (Baker 34) in 1993 after 33 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, taking care of his lawn, camping, gardening, scroll saw woodworking, and spending time with his family.

On June 10, 1983, he married Kathleen Anne Aiuto in Manchester, MI, and she survives. Also surviving are his children: Kevin (Reanna) Cornell of Saline, Amy (Philip) Gerweck of Tecumseh, and Megan (Stephen) Baker of Taylor; two grandchildren, Kyle Cornell and Norah Baker; two sisters, Phyllis Densmore of Howell and Evelyn Hutchins of Fowlerville; his father-in-law, Russell Aiuto Sr.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marjorie Cornell and Nancy Blackman; and his mother-in-law, Bernita Aiuto.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Chelsea, with the V. Rev. Dr. William J. Canon Turner officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Manchester. The family will receive friends at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea, on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Michigan Heart.
