A consecration service and open house for the new Sharon United Methodist parsonage will feature Michigan Conference Bishop David Bard on Sept. 8.

Sharon United Methodist Church invites the community to the consecration and open house of a new house for the pastor.

“Parsonage Consecration Sunday” will be held on Sunday, Sept. 8, with consecration at 1:30 pm followed by the open house from 2-4 pm on the Sharon UMC Campus, 19890 Pleasant Lake Road. The hall is located north of the sanctuary building; the house is located west of the sanctuary building.

Sharon United Methodist Church began in 1874 in a schoolhouse two miles east on Pleasant Lake Road. The current sanctuary building on the corner of M52 and Pleasant Lake Road was constructed and dedicated in 1876. For more than 100 years, the pastors serving Sharon United Methodist Church lived in the village of Manchester due to the lack of housing or space to build a house.

Additional land was purchased in 1990 for parking and then, in 2005, another parcel. This allowed for the building of a fellowship hall in 2009, and now, a new parsonage (house for pastor and family). Beautifully sited to look out on open farm land to the north and west, the house was built by Choice Home Designs (Harold Burchett, builder) of Chelsea. This four bedroom, three bath, 1800 sq. ft. ranch home on a full basement is located at the western edge of the 12 acre campus that includes the sanctuary building built in 1876 and the fellowship hall built in 2009. The two car garage opens into a laundry area just off the kitchen. It offers an open floor plan with three bedrooms/two baths upstairs. The basement features another bedroom with full bath, plus a large tv/family room, and ample storage. The house has wider doors and 5-foot radius in kitchen and master bathroom in the event a wheelchair is required.

On September 8, the day will begin with morning worship at 10:30 am in the sanctuary building. Michigan Conference Bishop David Bard will be the featured preacher. A luncheon follows at 12 noon in the fellowship hall. Please send your reservation to the church at sharonmuchurch@gmail.com, or call 734-428-0996 before September 1.
