Manchester’s Winter Farmers Market opened at 3 pm on Friday and very quickly was packed with residents excited to shop for fresh food indoors once again. The Winter Farmers Market is set up in the building that will eventually house Acorn Farmers Market and Cafe at 327 West Main Street, and is open Thursdays and Fridays 3 – 7 pm, and Saturdays 9 am – 1 pm. While offerings will vary from week to week, the market on Friday offered root vegetables, potatoes, squash, apples, kale, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, peppers, chicken and duck eggs, chicken, beef, sprouts, honey, fresh flowers, and locally-made dried pasta.

Some individual vendors were set up and could be purchased from separately but the rest was paid for all together at the cash register. The market accepts cash, check and credit cards.

Farmers Market and Acorn board member Ruth VanBogelen stated that organizers were very happy with the turnout and were packed on Friday and while things started off slow Saturday morning, by 10 am they had steady traffic for the rest of the market.

The Winter Farmers Market offers a taste of what Acorn will eventually feature as Acorn will have goods from more producers, be open more days of the week, and sell prepared foods in the café.
