Village approves trick-or-treating times

As nearly every holiday this year has been, Halloween 2020 in Manchester will be celebrated differently than in the past.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions and ongoing uncertainty about what course the virus may take this fall, there won't be a costume contest. There won't be pumpkin bowling at the gazebo. There won't be caramel apples.

But, trick-or-treating is "on," at least from the point of view of the Village Council.

"Our kids have already missed out on a lot this year," said Trustee Cindy Dresch when the topic was broached at the Monday, Sept. 14 meeting. "I realize that not every family will want to or be able to participate in that activity, but obviously it is an individual choice that can be made by each family who wants to participate."

Trustee Dana Andrews added, "It's certainly not a mandatory event."

After some additional discussion, the Council decided to schedule trick-or-treating for its normal hours of 5-7 pm on Saturday, October 31. Each family can determine its own level of participation--whether it's prowling the streets in costume, or handing out candy (or non-candy treats!) from home or a trunk downtown.

Some businesses who have handed out treats in the past may be doing so again this year; others have indicated they will not. Please check with your favorite business to see if they will be participating this year.

Be safe and healthy this Halloween ... and of course, "Masks" are mandatory!
