Worth Repeating to Celebrate 10 Years with Open House
On Saturday June 21st, Worth Repeating, the non-profit community resale shop in the Manchester Mill, will celebrate its 10th anniversary. The celebration will include cake and (non-alcoholic) sparkling wine for Worth Repeating customers and volunteers. Everyone is invited to stop in to join the festivities.
In 2004, Sharon Curtis envisioned a community resale shop in Manchester that accepted nice donations and resold them with the the proceeds donated to benefit local people and projects. A 400 square foot store opened on May 15, 2004 in the picturesque mill as a non-profit charity staffed entirely by volunteers.
In 2010, Kathy LaHaie assumed leadership and now oversees more than 25 volunteers who staff the store, receive donations, and retail the merchandise. The store has grown to occupy four additional store spaces, with dedicated areas for children’s merchandise, clothes, furniture, used books, dishes, decorations, and gifts. For holidays like Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, they hold silent auctions of premium items like fine jewelry and leather jackets.
The store draws customers from as far as Grand Rapids, Owosso, Adrian and everywhere in between. The quality, variety, and attractive presentation often have first time visitors asking “where the resale store is.”
Worth Repeating has become a major charitable organization in Manchester, donating as much as $56,000 annually. Donations have included scholarships to High School students, a van for Senior Citizens, Pulse Oximeters for the Fire Department (a first in the County), support for Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education, and support for local parks projects.
