Manchester District Library is celebrating Library Card Sign-up Month this September, along with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide. Throughout the month, everyone who signs up for a new library card will be entered into a drawing to win a Kindle Fire. To obtain your new library card, visit the library at 912 City Road. Anyone under 18 years of age must have a parent present.

Library patrons who already have a Manchester District Library card have the opportunity to enter the drawing as well, by referring others. For everyone that you refer who signs up for a new MDL card during September, you will receive an additional drawing entry. Just ask your referrals to state that you referred them when they sign up for their card.

Library cards are free if you live in the district but a proof of residency is required. The library is supported by tax monies from Manchester Village, Freedom Township, Bridgewater Township, and Manchester Township. The village and these three townships make up the district. Residents from outside the district may obtain membership for an annual household fee.

Having a library card unlocks a huge collection of books, movies and music, not just from our library but those available through the library network. Anne Buckalew, MDL administrative assistant, explained that our local library is so much more than a collection of books, movies, and music. “The Library provides after-school study space, services which support academic achievement, and opportunities for all to explore, discover, and create.” She continued,  “We offer electronic databases, public computers, free Wi-Fi, wireless printing, scanning, and copying. Throughout the year MDL offers programs such as weekly LEGO play time, a monthly book group, preschool story time, make and take craft events, artist displays, and special events like the Manchester High School Art Show.”

For as little as $1 a month, you can keep Manchester-focused news coverage alive.
