MHS Flag Corps to Fundraise with “Glow Show”
As Christmas in the Village festivities come to an end on Saturday, November 22, there will be a unique entertainment option right here in the Village. At 7pm the Manchester High School Flag Corps will be putting on their 5th annual “Glow Show” in the High School auditorium. Both a fundraiser and a performance, the flag corps will perform some of the marching band’s routines as well as routines to popular music under black lights with light colored flags in a dark auditorium. It is a $5 admission.
This year, admission will help the flag corps purchase uniforms and flags. Although in the past it’s also helped to purchase equipment and pay for camps for the members including sending members to the University of Michigan Marching Band Concert at Crisler Arena. There they had a two day clinic with members of the U-M Flag Corps and learned new and innovative moves to incorporate into their own marching band shows. The culminating activity was to perform with the U-M Flag Corps during the Crisler concert.
The girls of the flag corps create all of their own routines during the marching band season. They’ve also created the routines seen on the night of the Glow Show as well as have made the music selections. In fact, the “Glow Show” it’s self was initially conceived of by flag corps members and continues to be driven by them. Currently, the flag corps consists of senior captains, Morgan Blaine and Makayla Whitney; senior – Kelsey McGovern; juniors – Jacy Wacker and Ally Crouch; sophomores – Selena Kemeter, Kelsey Edwards and Jessie Exelby; and freshman – Lili St. Charles and Emily Penberthy.
Flag coordinator, Erin Throneberry stated, “We appreciate all the support we have received from the community in the past. We hope this activity will cap off a wonderful weekend with Christmas in the Village.”
