Cambrian Senior Living, which currently supports the local Manchester Senior Center with monthly sponsorship of activities, some of their programming needs, cookies, and word searches, recently named Mandy Otto as Life Enrichment Coordinator at their new Memory Care Community. Ms. Otto will oversee all aspects of the activities and events offered daily to enrich the lives of their residents living with dementia.

Denise Zebley, proprietor said, “We are excited to have Mandy join our team. She brings with her a wealth of experience from a well established career in the industry, including specific knowledge pertaining to the cognitive needs of seniors living with dementia. More importantly, Mandy has a passion for serving seniors and looks forward to the opportunity to make a positive difference in the daily lives of Cambrian’s residents.”

Otto earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreational Management and Cognitive Recreational Therapy from Indiana Wesleyan University. And, with more than a decade of hands-on senior living activities management experience she will quickly impact the caliber of the offerings at Cambrian Memory Care.

As a certified Zumba Gold instructor she intends to introduce the concept to Cambrian’s residents right away. Zumba Gold takes the popular Latin-dance inspired workout of Zumba and makes adaptations to it so it can be accessible for seniors of various abilities. It builds cardiovascular health by challenging the heart and working the muscles of the hips, legs, and arms with dance moves. Residents will be welcome to participate from either a standing or sitting position, whichever their limitations may require.

In addition to Zumba, Mandy intends to introduce many more unique opportunities that will allow residents to feel successful in their endeavors-from cooking, to making music, and even introducing some woodworking projects, to mention just a few. Volunteers from the local community are encouraged to contact Mandy if they have interest in sharing a special talent with the residents at Cambrian Memory Care.

Beyond serving those living at Cambrian Memory Care, Mandy will be instrumental in organizing and managing an Alzheimers and dementia support group which will welcome the families and caregivers of those living with dementia from the surrounding area including Manchester, to participate on a regular basis. These families should feel free to contact Cambrian Memory Care by phone at 517-423-5300 or email at info@CambrianAssisted.com to learn more information about about the upcoming support group, as well as the benefits of living in a setting especially designed to meet the unique needs of those living with dementia. Safety, security, and life enrichment activities that yield meaningful moments are often the elements that families struggle to be able to offer on their own.
