The 62nd Annual Manchester Chicken Broil will be held this Thursday from 4pm-8pm at Alumni Memorial Field in the Village of Manchester. Tickets are $9 if purchased in advance, and $ 10 if purchased at the gate the day of the Chicken Broil. There will be plenty of free parking and courtesy shuttle buses to bring you to the Field entrance.  Shuttle buses will operate from the Manchester Middle School at 710 E. Main Street.

While diners are invited to enjoy their meals at Alumni Field, where they can also enjoy music and a classic car show, a drive-through carryout line is also offered. The entrance is on Duncan St. at Hibbard St., with service on Wolverine St. next to Alumni Field. See the drive-through map here.

The broil is also again offering delivery of dinners to the Emanuel Church where diners can enjoy their meal in air conditioned comfort.

Broil Co-Chairmen Mike Tindall and Gary Bross have ordered 9,500 chicken halves this year, and expect a sell-out. They have amassed 4 pallets of Kingsford charcoal and over 1 ton of cabbage for Manchester’s world famous cole slaw.

Tindall proudly notes that over the past 61 years, “We have donated over $1,000,000 (in today’s dollars) to our community organizations.  This past year, we donated $ 10,000 to the Village Christmas decorations, and $ 30,000 to the renovation of Kirk Park.  This year’s proceeds will also be donated to the Kirk Park renovation.”

Local Boy Scouts will be setting up and cleaning up and taking down this year’s event, and the varsity football team will once again be setting up and taking down the blocks for the cooking pits.
