Library Cards are Cool! – MDL Celebrates Library Card Sign Up Month
Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school. September is Library Card Sign-up Month and the Manchester District Library is joining with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to make sure that every student has the most import school supply of all – a free library card.
Resources at the Manchester District Library are available to anyone who has a library card. To support their academic achievement, students can turn to the library for materials, programs and the knowledgeable library staff. The library provides an after-school study space, free Wi-Fi, wireless printing, public computers, access to electronic databases, scanning, and copying. Card holders have access to both print material as well an array of digital resources that can be accessed on-line including e-books, newspapers, travel information, legal forms and more! The library also offers preschool story time and make & take craft events.
Throughout the month of September, when a child gets a library card, they will receive a lanyard and a pair of Joe Cool-style sunglasses, and their name will be put in a drawing for a copy of Timmy Failure signed by Stephan Pastis. The Library will also have bookmarks and stickers available to celebrate the month. For more information on how to sign up for a library card, visit the Manchester District Library in person or visit their website.
