Sunday morning, Sept. 6, at 7:30am a Manchester landmark, Snoopy’s Mailbox was taken-out. Although conspiracy theorists continue to blame the Red Barron, first hand accounts have made it clear a truck jumped the curb, smashing Snoopy’s home into a million bits, before continuing through a hedge, and coming to rest in a large bush. A fairy family, who had recently moved into their new home, narrowly escaped destruction.

Snoopy, with dogged determination, will be rebuilt as he has before. Over a decade ago Snoopy’s Mailbox was destroyed for the first time, also on a Sunday, bearing the same cross as he was this time.

On a serious note considering the destruction of the mailbox and the more recent accident on 52, Snoopy’s Mailbox owner, JoAnn Okey would like to “Remind drivers to watch their speed as the curve on Ann Arbor Street, [it] can be dangerous.” Pedestrian traffic is high in that area as many children use that sidewalk to get to and from school.

Snoopy himself, hasn’t let the loss of his house dissuade him; he continues to greet travelers (although at ground level) every morning. Keep up with Snoopy, and his rebuilding, on his Facebook page
