Meet Susan Thompson: School Social Worker for Manchester Community Schools
Mrs. Susan Thompson, who holds both a bachelors and masters degree from MSU, is the new Special Education School Social Worker for the Manchester Community Schools. This job entails crisis intervention, consulting with staff to support classroom interventions, completing evaluations for special education consideration, and meeting with students on her assigned caseload to work on IEP objectives that will assist them in achieving their educational goals.
While Mrs. Thompson just starting her new job in Manchester schools, she actually moved to Manchester two years ago. It was just a happy coincidence that the social worker position became available with Manchester schools. Mrs. Thompson’s first impression of Manchester schools is that the staff and students are very helpful and welcoming.
She has been a school social worker for 22 years and prior to that, was a Family Service Worker at Boysville of Michigan. She has worked for Lincoln Consolidated School District in Ypsilanti, Boysville, and Harbor Runaway Shelter in Port Huron. While Manchester’s school district is much smaller than Lincoln’s district today, Lincoln was close to the size of Manchester when she started there.
Mrs. Thompson’s three children also attend Manchester Community Schools.
