Manchester High School is starting a FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics team. High schools from around the country build their own robot and then use the robot to compete against other schools in local tournaments. Manchester Community Schools will be considered a rookie team this season as this is the district’s first season competing.

The team will kick off the season on January 9th and is looking for local help. They are in need of mentors. Anyone interesting in helping the team build robots, as well as electrical, mechanical, structural, or civil, engineers or project managers who would be willing to help are to asked to please contact Matthew Hall at mhall@mcs.k12.mi.us or 734-428-7442 X 1225.

The team has received a $9,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Education to help the team get started and to purchase an initial robotics kit. They will be attending the kickoff event at the University of Michigan on January 9th to pick up their kit. But, they are also in need of local sponsors who would be willing to donate money or supplies to help them build their first robot. Types of things they will need possibly could include fasteners, aluminum, tools, etc.

If you can help sponsor the  team, please contact Hall.
