Obituary: DeVern W. Bateman Jr.
His Legacy…..Bateman Jr., DeVern W., age 92 of Manchester passed away May 24, 2016 at home under the loving care of his wife, family, and Great Lakes Caring Hospice. He was born in Lily, Nebraska on June 25, 1923 the son of DeVern Sr. and Verlia (Taylor) Bateman. DeVern served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force Army during WWII. He married Sylvia Cobb on March 1, 1943 in Taylor and she survives. He and Sylvia enjoyed attending the Community Bible Church. DeVern was employed as a “test driver” until his retirement. In his free time, he enjoyed remodeling houses, reading western books, watching movies and playing cards at the Manchester American Legion. DeVern’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
His Family….In addition to his loving wife of 73 years, DeVern is survived by his sons: Richard (Kathy), Ronald (Diane) and Kenneth Bateman; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
His Farewell…DeVern’s family greeted friends on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the Community Bible Church, 8400 Sharon Hollow Rd., Manchester. On Friday, family and friends gathered at Noon until the time of service at 1 pm, officiated by Pastor Ron Clark. Interment Oak Grove Cemetery. In DeVern’s honor, memorial donations may be shared with the Community Bible Church.
