Manchester area farmers invited to sail on a tall ship this August
Are you a Manchester farmer who sometimes daydreams about life on the sea instead on the soil or at least of an afternoon of sailing? This August you can help hoist the mighty sails of the 85’ wooden schooner “Appledore” and sail while learning more about current and emerging issues of water quality in Lake Erie.
Farmers, landowners of rented farmland, and partners of agriculture are invited to participate in 3 tall ship sails Aug. 29 – 31 as well as the Western Lake Erie Basin Conservation Practice Conferences and a Sandpiper Boat Cruise. Seats are limited and registration is required, but they are offered free to farmers and landowners of farmed land in the Western Lake Erie Watershed Basin. To register, visit the Washtenaw County Conservation “Field to the Great Lakes” event page HERE or call or email Amy Gilhouse at (517) 263-7400 ext.117 or amy.gilhouse@macd.org.
Lake Erie is the warmest and most biologically productive of the Great Lakes, and the Lake Erie walleye fishery is widely considered the best in the world. The lake has a unique suite of features and challenges, to which we in Manchester contribute via the River Raisin.
