August staff picks of new books at the Manchester District Library
This month’s staff recommendations of some of the newest books at Manchester District Library will let you complete your summer reading quota over the holiday weekend. Happy reading!
Donna Kittel:
The Island House by Nancy Thayer
The setting is Nantucket, beautifully described, and deals with college relationships and how they change throughout the years, including how “families” are formed and what keeps them together and grounded. A very nice read.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K Rowling, John Tiffany & Jack Thorne
I wasn’t sure I would like the format of the book. It reads like a play, including placement of actors on stage. I thought I would miss the description of each place, and the details. Not to worry, sparse as it is, you are given just enough information to paint a picture. Your knowledge of all things Harry fills in the blanks. A very fun read, as are all the Harry Potter books.
The Black Widow by Daniel Silva
I really enjoyed this book. The attention to detail, the local descriptions, and few do suspense better. The premise is current, which adds to the suspense. I had a hard time putting it down, and found myself on pins and needles for the last several chapters.
Mireille Prusak:
The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware
This was a terrific novel of psychological suspense. It kept me guessing right up to the very end, and even then, thinking it was all over and neatly wrapped up, it delivered one final twist. I completely sympathized with the protagonist’s insomnia, as I couldn’t sleep myself while reading this, needing to stay awake and keep reading just one more page.
