The Tecumseh Players, with 50+ years of live theater, are reaching out to invite Manchester performers to their auditions this season. Betty Cummings, Manchester resident and publicist for the group stated, “We want to have actors from around this area audition!”

The Tecumseh Players will hold auditions for The Christmas Schooner, October 11 and 12 from 6 to 9 pm, on the stage of the Tecumseh Center for the Arts. Bring a prepared song with sheet music and be prepared to read from the script. Minimal dance experience is required for this show. Performance dates are December 9-11, 2016.

The Christmas Schooner is based on true stories of a Michigan shipping captain living in Manistique (on the northern coast of Lake Michigan) who braves the deadly winter weather to bring Christmas trees to homesick German-American families in turn-of-the-century Chicago. The whole family will enjoy this heart-warming story, based on the historic Great Lakes voyages of Christmas tree ships during the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Cast requirements are as follows:

  • Capt. Peter Stossel, Husband to Alma/Son of Gustav/Karl’s Father
  • Alma Stossel, Peter’s wife/Karl’s mother
  • Karl Stossel (age 9)
  • Karl Stossel (age 15)
  • Gustav Stossel, Peter’s father/Grandfather to Karl
  • Rudy, Oskar, and Steve who are friends and crewmembers of Capt. Stossel’s ship, the Molly Doone
  • Storytellers, Narrators of our story

The Christmas Schooner is a musical written by John Reeger with music and lyrics by Julie Shannon.
