Manchester girls’ softball camp a hit!
submitted by Laurie Luckhardt
On August 15, Manchester Area Youth Sports hosted a 3-day softball camp for girls entering grades 1st through 8th grades. Former University of Michigan All-American player and current Varsity softball coach in Saline, Alicia Seegert, ran the camp. This year, 28 girls attended camp. Because of the weather, this year’s camp was held inside the high school gym.
Girls learned the basic fundamentals of softball. Camp consisted of stations that focused on skills such as throwing, hitting, catching, positioning, and sliding. Stations were manned by JV Softball players. Finally on the last day we were able to sneak outside for a little bit so the girls could practice their sliding skills on the slip and slide.
Portions of this year’s camp proceeds will be used to purchase warm up shirts for the Manchester JV Softball Team. Coach, Alissa Robison and her JV players were a tremendous help and were key in helping make this year’s camp a success.
Alicia is a huge asset to our organization. She is so willing to help grow a youth sports program. She has a way of breaking down the fundamentals and teaching the skills to even the youngest girl. Without her, this camp would not be possible.
