Obituary: Karen Lois Jenter
Karen Lois Jenter, age 67, life-long resident of Manchester, passed away September 5, 2016 at Evangelical Home – Saline. She was born on September 19, 1948 in Tecumseh. Her parents, Ronald Arthur and June Lucille (nee Olson) Jenter, both preceded her in death as did her brother: James Arthur “Jimmy” Jenter. Karen was also a life-long member of Emanuel United Church of Christ, where she sang in the Choir for over 60 years, served on the Church Council, the Mission Board, and the Historical Board. Genealogy, American and local history were her passions. She, as her mother before her, was a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, National Society of the Daughters of the War of 1812, the Michigan Cameo Society, and the Manchester American Legion Auxiliary. Karen was also a member of the Genealogical Society of Washtenaw County and the Saline Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She volunteered at the Historical Room of the Manchester District Library for many years, and as a member of the Manchester Area Historical Society, continuously provided her expertise on local family histories and saw the location of her family’s funeral home business become the site of the Society’s expanded museum and new community gathering rooms known as the Kingsley-Jenter House. She worked to see that all Veteran’s graves in the Manchester cemeteries were marked with a Veteran’s tombstone. Karen was also an accomplished crafter and seamstress. A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, Karen was employed through the Social Security Administration. Karen is survived by her Aunt: Norma Senchuk and many other cousins and their families.
