Manchester Dutch Equestrian Team wins District 10 Championship!
Submitted by Donna Clark
On September 18, 2016, the Manchester Dutch Equestrian Team was able to outscore 4 other “B” Division teams to become District 10 Champs! When the dust settled, our Manchester Team had completed the goal of coming out on top for the third and final local meet of the Fall season. Final scores were Manchester 202, Tecumseh 141, Milan 112, Onsted 79 and Grass Lake 64.
Members of the team were excited to earn the 2016 Championship trophy. Out of the eight members on our team, four of them scored better than 30 points each at this meet. Alex Clark was the high point rider.
Senior rider and team captain, Alivia Johnson, placed in every class she rode in, taking first in hunt seat fitting and showing and first in hunt seat bareback. Junior Claudia Walz, also placed in every class she and her horse, Eddie, entered. This team of horse and rider showed off their versatility by winning Equitation over Fences, then placing first in Western Equitation, and second in Western Equitation Bareback.
October 1st and 2nd will find our team competing at Regionals on the Ingham County Fairgrounds in Mason. Each region is made up of 4 districts with the top 2 teams competing being invited to Regionals. Manchester will now face 6 new teams, plus, once again, our local rival, Tecumseh. The heat is on – new patterns to learn for all the showmanship and equitation classes and more practicing of all our basic horsemanship skills. Only the top two teams in each division at Regionals will be invited to the State Meet, October 13-16th in Midland.
