7th Grade

Number 5, Jordyn Porter, began Wednesday night’s 7th and 8th grade volleyball double header against Addison. First to serve for Manchester’s Lady Dutch 7th grade team, Jordyn landed 3 aces before Addison gained possession. Manchester’s  team communication and ability to control the ball upon receiving a serve allowed them to immediately recover possession for the whole of set one; which the Lady Dutch soundly won at 21-7.

Addison served first in set two, and was able to capitalize for a quick lead, one of only two times they would lead during the 7th grade matches that night. Tied 4-4 number 24, Elizabeth Burch, knocked over two aces and Manchester got its momentum back and rolled on to a 21-11 win.

Set three, although Manchester lead throughout, remained close to the end. Both teams played their best game of the night with almost every service leading to 3 hit volleys. For a moment Addison seemed poised to take the upset. A beautiful spike from #13, Morgan Lutton, took the fight out of Addison. Manchester kept it together and took the match, 21-17. Manchester ended the 7th grade match 3-0.

The “Home” side of the bleachers were full for all of the 7th grade match, and by the time the 8th grade Lady Dutch took the court Manchester’s spectators had spilled into the “Visitor” section. Set one was a battle. Both teams displayed great control; back lines digging deep to keep the other team from getting more then 2 serves in a row. Finally  #6, Victoria Woods, served Manchester to the biggest score gap of the match taking the Lady Dutch from 12 to 17, putting them 7 points above Addison. Manchester couldn’t hang on for the lead though, and Addison squeaked by with a 19-21 win.

That win would be the last time Addison led that night. Sets 2 and 3 both saw Manchester putting up big leads, 8-0 and 10-0 before Addison got their first point. Kayla Ridenour #11, and #15 Katelyn Blumenauer’s serves were too powerful for Addison to handle. Although there were many long volleys, Manchester’s ability to communicate on the court kept them firmly in the lead for the last two sets. 21-13 was the final for set 2. A perfectly executed bump-set-spike by Manchester ended set 3, a 21-11 win. The Lady Dutch won the match 2-1. The 7th and 8th grade played smart on Wednesday night. Manchester’s volleyball talent runs deep.
