This past week, October 16 through October 22, 2016, was National Friends of Libraries Week. The Manchester District Library would like to take this opportunity to express our deep gratitude for the work of our own Friends group.

Friends of Libraries groups offer a tremendous source of support to the libraries in their communities, with activities ranging from fundraising and volunteering to advocacy and public awareness. In our case, the Friends of the Manchester District Library tirelessly host our monthly book donation days on the first Saturday of every month (March through October). These books then go into their ongoing book sale at the library. The Friends use the proceeds from this book sale to support library programming, special events, and the purchase of helpful supplies like our purple shopping baskets for patrons to use while they browse the shelves.

If you’d like to support your library by joining the Friends, for more information you can stop by the Manchester District Library at 912 City Road, give us a call at 734-428-8045, or visit the Friends website at https://mdlfriends.wordpress.com/.

For as little as $1 a month, you can keep Manchester-focused news coverage alive.
