Safe Routes to School sidewalk construction begins in Manchester Woods subdivision.

You may have noticed what appears to be road construction in Manchester Woods, the subdivision between Klager Elementary School and the Middle School. It is actually the beginning of the Safe Routes 2 School sidewalk construction project! After sidewalk construction along Woodland Way and Glenwood Circle in Manchester Woods, sidewalks and crossings will be constructed along East Main Street, then Duncan Street, the intersection of Adrian and Ockrow Street, the intersection of Torrey and Vernon Street and finishing with Washington, Madison and Macomb streets, for a total of almost 30,000 square feet of new sidewalks. Construction of the new sidewalks should be complete by the end of July.

Manchester village manager Jeff Wallace elaborated on the funding, “This money for the construction comes from the Safe Routes to Schools Program from the Michigan Department of Transportation. We worked with Manchester Community Schools and the Five Healthy Towns Foundation to secure these funds. Doan Construction was low bid at $320,000.”
