Now in it’s 6th year, Session I of CAS Summer Day Camp finished out its week with a presentation for parents and friends on Friday, June 23 that included small group instrumental demonstrations, large ensemble pieces, advanced chamber music, singing, and artwork displays that tied together the camp theme “My Old Cottage Home.” Camp Director Aileen Rohwer was joined by local resident and former Ann Arbor Public School Music teacher Carol Palms, and staff members Emily Slomovitz, Ryan Seay, and Phoebe Gelzer-Govatos.

There were 22 students ranging in ages from 6-13 learning to play or advancing skills in violin, cello, bass, and guitar. Art curriculum included painting small cottages to include in a village the students put together. Full day students were also exposed to pillow making, songwriting, and advanced chamber music. The supplemental activities are meant to reinforce skills necessary to understand the process of learning music: attention to detail, patience, persistence, learning how to correct mistakes, being a small part of a whole, teamwork, and many more skills.

Session II will take place July 31-Aug 4 and will center around Manchester’s Sesquicentennial Celebration exploring music and art of the late 1800’s. Families may sign up at Eventbrite.com until July 15. No experience necessary. Half Day $175, Full Day $350. For more information www.riverfolkarts.org or call 734.223.6876
