The 70-piece Washtenaw Community Concert Band (WCCB) will present a joint band concert titled “Journey Around the World” with the Blue Lake International Southern Winds on Thursday, July 27, 7:30 pm in the Manchester High School Auditorium.
The Southern Winds, a symphonic wind ensemble from Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp near Muskegon, is composed of 40 talented high school musicians who have just returned from their summer concert tour of Europe. Cozette Ceconnie of Manchester is a bassoonist in both bands and was key to bringing the two groups together for this concert. The Southern Winds will perform highlights from their recent overseas tour, while the WCCB will perform selections from Spain, the British Isles, the Slavic region, and will include the popular “What a Wonderful World.” The two groups will join together in performance of several familiar selections including John Williams’ “Star Wars – The Marches” and John Philip Sousa’s march “Hands Across the Sea.”
The Washtenaw Band is in its 38th season and is composed of community musicians of all ages from across Washtenaw County. The conductor of WCCB is Chris Heidenreich, Director of Bands from UofM-Flint. John Heath is the director of the Southern Winds ensemble.
The concert is free, and the public is invited to attend. Manchester High School is located at 20500 Dutch Drive, Manchester. For more information, visit the band’s website: www.wccband.org.
