Letter to the Editor: Manchester NOT Perfect the way it is

Someone must be kidding in our village government when they say we are perfect as is. Has no one seen the constantly empty storefronts on main street. has no one noticed that we are closing a school because of ever shrinking enrollment. Doesn’t any one at city hall see that we can’t attract vendors for our town events because of lack of attendance or no buyers. When anything different is tried like Sweet Mary’s or Dan’s Grill or even the evening hours at the Black Sheep do we notice that no one in town supports these endeavors. I’ve heard forever how quaint we are as a town, but with no progress forward we will be the quaintest ghost town in the future. Finally does anyone notice that the same aging group has been putting on the events that help make Manchester, but extremely few young or middle age helpers, logic and time tell us that things simply can’t continue as is.

Manchester

Editor’s note: This letter is in response to an article that appeared in print last week but not online (something that only occurs rarely!) The article cites a story State Representative Lasinski told before presenting a tribute from the State to the Village last Monday night in honor of the Sesquicentennial, in which on a survey sent to municipalities in the region a number of years ago, asking about their aspirations, Manchester responded that we are happy the way we are.
