Manchester High School Equestrian Team remained undefeated with their second win of the season.  They were competing in the District 10, Class B horse riding meet, which was held at the Lenawee County Fairgrounds in Adrian on September 10. The meet was sponsored by the Michigan Interscholastic Horse Association and included other high schools from Washtenaw, Lenawee, and Jackson counties. A total of four schools compete in Class B. These equestrian meets are structured similar to gymnastic and track meets, including a variety of individual competitions. Most riding and jumping events are judged on form and accuracy like gymnastic events, whereas barrel racing and relays are timed like races and relays in track meets. Each individual rider earns points based on where they place in each event, and the team scores are the sum of the individual riders’ point earnings.

Manchester’s team went ahead early and built on their lead all day. The final scores were Manchester 227, Northwest 122, Tecumseh 112, and Grass Lake 104. Junior Ellie Haist was Manchester’s high point rider, with Senior Alex Clark coming in second. Other members of the team include Seniors Tyler Elliott and Claudia Walz; Junior Julia Johnson; Sophomores Megan Reppert and Bailey Elliott; and Freshmen Carli Kerns and Brooklyn Lyos.

“Our team performed extremely well today,” said Coach Donna Clark. “Everyone on this team contributed to our victory. Our riders placed in the top three in almost every event, and that included events with up to 16 total riders.”
