Coppélia is a comic ballet, which premiered in Paris in 1870. The ballet was originally choreographed by Arthur Saint-Léon to the music of Leo Delibes, and is based on two stories by E.T.A Hoffman, who also wrote The Nutcracker and The Mouse King. The story takes place in a small European town as a group of villagers prepare for the Harvest Festival, and tells of the beautiful Swanhilda, her beloved Franz, and their discovery of Dr. Coppélius’ mysterious shop of dolls and toys.
Coppélia is a light-hearted musical journey for music and dance lovers alike and is appropriate for all ages. If you enjoy The Nutcracker, don’t miss Coppélia !
