Candidate for U.S. Representative in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District coming to Manchester
Steven Friday, a candidate for U.S. Representative in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, will be holding a meet and greet and community discussion on Friday, April 6 from 5:30 to 8 pm in the Village Room, (lower level) 912 City Rd in Manchester.
Friday, a Dexter resident, is an Air Force Veteran and a Master Social Worker. Friday is competing with Gretchen Driskell for the Democratic nomination in the primary on Tuesday August 7th to oppose Republican Congressman Tim Walberg who currently holds Michigan’s 7th Congressional District seat.
Friday described the format of the event, “I try and meet with small groups at coffee houses or restaurants when I first go into an area to meet with people. I believe that big crowds can intimidate people if it is the first time people are meeting. I want people to be at the most ease they can be. I really want connect the human stories that we all have and I find these events ideal for that.”
Last week in conjunction with his endorsement from the National Association of Social Workers, Friday explained “Almost half of the 7th District’s children are counted as low-income, and more than one in four Michigan children live below an artificially low poverty line. Students are graduating from college as lifelong debtors. Working class and middle-class families can nosedive into financial ruin with one catastrophic illness. The administration is currently at work shredding what’s left of a meager safety net, as it prosecutes a war on immigrants and people of color who already suffer disproportionately. The Trump administration, with the full support of Representative Walberg on issues related to this matter, has opened a terrible wound in an already suffering body politic.”
“This is a fight for millions of lives in a moment of peril, and the 7th Congressional District in Michigan is reprehensibly represented by Congressman Tim Walberg. Right Wing Watch called him, ‘one of the ten most dangerous members of Congress.’ Walberg supported every job-killing trade agreement that slithered out of Wall Street’s back rooms. The Congressman wants to dismantle Social Security and Medicare—another Wall Street ambition. He has voted 98.5 percent of the time with the current administration.”
Come meet Friday this Friday in Manchester. “Bring questions and be ready to be heard!”
