Out of the eight superintendent applicants selected for interviews, three candidates were chosen for round two interviews. The three who were invited back include Scott Riley, who is currently superintendent/K12 principal of Camden-Frontier Schools in Camden, MI, a small village in Hillsdale County near the state-line; Nicholas Steinmetz, who is currently assistant superintendent at Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District in the Upper Peninsula near the Porcupine Mountains; and Kevin Upton, who is currently the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Lincoln Consolidated Schools closer to home in Washtenaw County. Upton also lectures at University of Michigan’s School of Education.

Anthony Hollow of the firm handling the search explained the process: On April 24, beginning at noon, the three candidates (with the option of bringing their spouses/significant others and children if applicable) will be taken on tours of the buildings and community by school board members, providing opportunities for students, staff and the community to meet and greet the candidates. That evening, at a special board meeting open to the public held in the board room of the Nellie Ackerson Building at 410 City Road, the school board will in interview Scott Riley at 5:30 pm, Nicholas Steinmetz at 6:30 pm, and Kevin Upton at 7:30 pm. The first part of each interview will consist of a presentation by the candidate on their plan to address enrollment issues in Manchester Community Schools–including increasing enrollment and sustainability of enrollment. Depending on the length of the presentation and board members’ questions, there may be time for questions from community members in the audience they will be able to submit on cards.

It is the intention of the school board to make a decision after the interviews at the April 24th meeting and to move to make an offer to their finalist.
