The Lucy Wolcott Barnum Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will host a Famous Ladies Tea on Sunday, April 29, at 2 pm at the Governor Croswell Tea Room, 125 East Maumee Street, in Adrian. Enjoy high tea and then hear the personal stories of five American women of history as portrayed by chapter members. Manchester’s Betty Cummings will portray Lizzy Borden, famously accused of killing her parents with an ax. Deborah Dushane of Temperance will portray Varina Howell Davis, (Mrs. Jefferson Davis) the first lady of the Confederacy. Elise Eschedor of Hudson will portray Sybil Ludington, who at the age of 16 rode to alert militia forces of the approach of the British regular forces, sometimes called the female Paul Revere. Kris Eschedor of Hudson will portray Martha Matilda Harper, a Canadian-American businesswoman, entrepreneur, and inventor who built an international network of franchised hair salons that emphasized healthy hair care. Cheryl Shell of Spring Arbor will portray Martha Ballard, a midwife who wrote a diary of her daily life and profession that was the basis for a book and a movie, “The Midwife’s Diary.”
