CRC partnering with Jackson United Way to help residents with overdue energy bills
The Community Resource Center is partnering with United Way of Jackson County to offer application assistance for the Consumers Energy CARE Program. The CARE Program is still accepting applications for customers needing help with a past due Consumers Energy bill. At this time, more than 5,000 slots remain, which Consumers anticipates filling within the month of May.
CARE is an affordable payment plan that provides a discounted monthly bill plus incremental forgiveness of a past due balance as a reward for successful participation. Two key qualifiers for participation in the program: (1) the applicant is past due on his/her Consumers Energy bill and (2) the applicant’s household is income-qualified. Maximum monthly total household income is 150% poverty level or $1,508 for 1, $2,030 for 2, $2,553 for 3, $3,075 for 4, $3,598 for 5, $4,120 for 6, $4,643 for 7, and $5,165 for 8.
