Letter to the Editor: Wireless alternative
April 24, 2018
Everybody desires faster internet. All the experts say “the future of Broadband is Wireless”. Wireless broadband is increasing its speed every month. Air Advantage which comes off of Manchester’s water tower now has submitted to us a proposal (See Air Advantage at website www.Sharonfriends.com) this wireless system could be up and running in 2019, and offers a base speed of 25Mbps for $45 and a top speed of 100 Mbps for $100 a month. Unlimited data. This plan would cover the Township and they would use repeaters to reach homes that do not meet line of sight.
This system is much less risky than owning an Optic fiber system. Optic fiber is fast, and can be feasible in cities where homes are densely populated, unlike in Sharon Township. The feasibility study predicts that 60% of homes will sign up. There are 712 homes in Sharon Township, and 60% is just 427 homes. Yet all of the vacant land and farms will have to pay for their internet. The bond is $4,900,000.00 with interest over 20 years, and the total cost will be over $7,500,000.00. There is also Satellite internet on the horizon. Elon Musk predicts his company will within 2-3 years provide internet service at a cost as low as $7.00 a month.
When you sign up for your cell phone or Direct TV, you usually sign a two year contract. By approving this proposal, you are signing a 20 year contract, even though there will be faster, better and cheaper systems in a few years.
Please consider this and vote “NO” on this proposal. (see our web site at www.Sharonfriends2018.com)
