The Lucy Wolcott Barnum Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution sold out for its first Famous Ladies Tea held on April 29 at the Governor Croswell Tea Room. Guests enjoyed high tea and then the famous ladies went from table to table telling the guests about themselves. Famous ladies pictured are: Cheryl Shell (Spring Arbor) as Martha Moore Ballard, a midwife and healthcare provider who kept a diary recording her midwife deliveries and early American domestic life. Betty Cummings (Manchester) as Lizzie Borden, who had a terrible reputation for killing her father and stepmother with an axe–but did she really do it? Elise Eschedor (Hudson) as Sybil Ludington, a genuine Revolutionary heroine. She rode twice the distance of Paul Revere to alert militia forces of the approaching British.
Debbie Dushane (Temperance) as Varina Howell Davis, the First Lady of the Confederate States of America, whose husband was Jefferson Davis a wealthy plantation owner. Kris Eschedor (Hudson) as Martha Matilda Harper who created America’s first retail franchise network–a radical new business model that encouraged women to own businesses. Submitted by Betty Cummings.
