Sharon United Methodist Church Ice Cream Social

Sharon United Methodist Church will be hosting its 94th Ice Cream Social Wednesday June 27th. Serving starts at 5 pm to 7:30 pm at the Fellowship Hall. Looking through the church historical records, it was found that the first Ice Cream Social was hosted in August of 1924. They served hot dogs and ice cream and made a profit of $62. Using the US Inflation Calculator, $62 in 1924 would be equivalent to $908.41 in 2018.

This year you can enjoy a menu of hot dogs, sloppy Joes, ham and cheese melts on a pretzel bun, and the popular chicken sandwich. Side dishes will include baked beans, American potato salad, and coleslaw. But like any good Ice Cream Social the star of the evening is the vanilla ice cream! Enjoy it plain or with toppings of chocolate or strawberries. A large variety of pies and cakes baked by the women of the church are available to accompany your ice cream. Again this year there will be seating in the air-conditioned fellowship hall or outside under the portico.

Sharon United Methodist Church is located on the corner of M-52 and Pleasant Lake Roads. For additional information you can e-mail SharonUMChurch@gmail.com or call the church office and leave a message at 734-428-0966. The Rev. Peter Harris is pastor of Sharon United Methodist Church.
